Miss Bala (2011)
dir. Gerardo Naranjo

I tend to be at odds when it comes to Mexico’s submission for Foreign Language film but Miss Bala was surprisingly fantastic. I huge change from the awful Biutiful (I didn’t think Bardem was that good) and the even worse Backyard. I liked Tear My Heart Out despite all its soap opera melodrama; it was well-made and entertaining. Pan’s Labyrinth is still to date the best submission…and they should have WON! Yeah, the German film was great but dammit Pan’s Labyrinth was a masterpiece! discocineart:
